So far we have engaged with developers of Sailfish OS (community port) and Lineage OS.

The developers are geniuses and they got both OS up and running.

In the future we will look into Postmarket OS, and Ubuntu Touch, and perhaps even more. And dual boot two OS (with one being Android)

    HI !

I am ready to buy the F(x)Tec Pro1 with Ubuntu running and a QWERTZ Keyboard.

Where can i apply to Order it ?

I am only interessted in a non Android Phone with full supported Ubuntu or at least SailfishOS.

Thanks in advance for the Info.

Sorry, this is an Android Phone that supports and unlockable bootloader allowing you to install whatever OS you like. So I guess you’re probably not interested :(

There is work on SailfishOS but it’s community run. You are more than welcome to port Ubuntu, but don’t think anybody’s trying that yet, and not super simple. There’s a maemo-leste effort tho, that’s vaguely close as both have debian roots. But I doubt either one will be as polished as Android if you expect that. If not, install SfOS and enjoy :)

So, if I get things right, the Pro1 will run with the community version of Sailfish OS. Does this mean, that Pro1 running SfOS won’t support Android Apps (because Android Emulation is supported only with Sailfish X https://shop.jolla.com/)?

Lineage has been brought up on the Pro1, builds will be available once the device is actually released:

    <twitter-widget class=”twitter-tweet twitter-tweet-rendered” id=”twitter-widget-0″ style=”position: static; visibility: visible; display: block; transform: rotate(0deg); max-width: 100%; width: 550px; min-width: 220px; margin-top: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px;” data-tweet-id=”1148357734204616704″></twitter-widget>
    <script async=”” src=”https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js&#8221; charset=”utf-8″></script>

Until now “f(x)tec” is not listed with the “pro1” in the lineage list https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/ . Well, the phone is not released yet ;-)
I would order the phone as soon as the first lineage release appears. Will the lineage release appear in September 2019, too?

Correct — community ports do not get Android support.

I feel like this is the first phone I’d be interested in using Sailfish on, but it’ll have to wait until I can run a few Android apps as well. :)

The only thing we know about Lineage is that it is being “worked on” by Lineage devs, not in house by F(x) I don’t believe. I would not expect it to be an option soon as I think they would need a final version of the phone to work with. I will jump on it as soon as it is ready, but I think it will be a ways down the road.

However, don’t mistake me for someone who actually knows the answer. Just my guess. :-)

    Hello,
if I understood everything here correctly then the manufacturer does not support
other operating system. It’s just talk, all blah, blah?

You should buy the phone on suspicion. And if it goes stupid, then do the manufacturer
    the mobile phone behind too.

What do I get in the box? Are there already current photos?

    Greetings and fun
    Andreas

They are leaving the bootloader unlockable and have provided sailfish and lineage developers with pre-production units to help them already port their stuff to Pro1, that is not just “blah, blah”. Warranty and guarantees about the functioning of the other OSes is something they understandably can not provide, but not actively fighting alternative systems is already way better than most phones you can buy.

If you want you can see already work on sailfish happening:

A month ago there was a LineageOS screenshot https://twitter.com/chenliangchen/status/1148357734204616704/photo/1.
SailfishOS seems to be coming along but still issues… https://github.com/sailfish-on-fxtecpro1/droid-config-t5/issues

I tried pinging tdm on twitter for a LOS update, so maybe he’ll respond. I’m not sure if Chen has asked them to remain quiet or not tho, seems the SFOS developers are communicating openly now, so hopefully LOS developers feel free to communicate too :)

    Hello,
that’s good news. Let’s see how far I get it.
I attach great importance to an alternative system.

I use my beloved Siemens ME45 for years. I have been searching for a long time
    Smartphone that is open.

Here I might have the option to install only one OS – and then
only the app’s really needed. Without all this garbage, nobody
    really needs.

650 € for a smartphone is a lot of money. I want the risk of disappointment like that
    keep it low as possible.
I am a hobbyist / programmer. I can not do everything, but it would be a lot
    certainly possible.

Then I will wait once for the delivery of the “QWERTZ”.
    Many thanks for your help.
    Greetings and fun
    Andreas

Whilst we are (more or less patiently) waiting for devices to be delivered, anything new on progress from the OS developers?
I dunno if we can take this hint from Adam Pigg that the port is usable?
I for one would take usable alternative OS as a good compensation for the delay on delivery..
